WASHINGTON – Starting Jan. 17, Veterans in acute suicidal crisis will be able to go to any VA or non-VA health care facility for emergency health care at no cost – including inpatient or crisis residential care for up to 30 days and outpatient care for up to 90 days. Veterans do not need to be enrolled in the VA system to use this benefit. more

The Jasper Masonic Lodge Senior Warden, Todd Parker presented a check for the Newton County Christmas Child Project that is sponsored by the Newton County Extension Clubs. LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Department of Health wants the public to be aware of very high levels of the flu in our state. This flu season has already seen much higher case numbers than the previous two flu seasons. Indeed, levels of flu are currently higher than at the peak of an average flu season, indicating that we are in a severe flu season. As we move through the holidays, we anticipate flu cases to remain high. more
With a foreboding temperature forecast this week, the American Legion Post 93 in Jasper is a designated warming station for the Jasper and Newton County area. Facilities will be rudimentary, but warm. There is room in an emergency for over 40 people and if someone is frozen out of their home, contact us at the numbers below and they can be accommodated. The accommodations will be far better than being chilled to the bone. more
