Second night of action produces one upset in 1A-1East

There was only one upset on the second night of action at the 1A-1East District Tournament being held at Jasper.

No. 5 Lead Hill earned a regional tournament berth by upsetting No. 4 Alpena’s senior boys. Lead Hill won the contest, 44-41.

In other action, the Omaha senior boys downed Deer, 71-30.

Lead Hill’s senior girls fell to Alpena, 61-26.

Senior Boys

Lead Hill 44, Alpena 41

A decisive fourth quarter was the difference as the Tigers of Lead Hill defeated Alpena, 44-41.

Heading into the fourth period, the Leopards led the Tigers, 29-25.

Both teams scored 13 points in the first period and both teams scored six points in the second frame.

Alpena got seven points from Hayden Jones in the third period to put the Leopards ahead, 29-25, after three periods of play.

Nolan Turner scored nine points in the fourth period for Lead Hill to go ahead and post the win.

Turner led the Tigers with 17 points. Nicklas May had 10 points, Coda Lemon and Haygan Dotson seven each, Kaden Baker two and Alex Gray one.

May had 10 rebounds.

Alpena was led by Slade Harp with 16 points. Jones added 11, Keaton Toliver seven, D.J. Evans four, Tucker Savage two and Kolby Woods one.

Omaha 71, Deer 30

The Omaha boys had 11 players score on the way to producing a 71-40 win over Deer.

Omaha soared out to a 19-6 lead at the end of the first period and then held the Antlers to three points in the second frame.

Moving ahead, 45-9, at intermission, the Eagles were on their way to the regional tournament.

The Eagles won the third period, 15-9.

Noah Morrison had 17 points for Omaha. Dylan Greenwood added 12, Briar Whitehurst 11, Jonathan McKinney seven, Gatlin Edwards six, Bo Lange five, Tucker Greenwood and Zane Robinson three each and Creyton Gross and Sam Edwards two apiece.

Deer was led by Lane Nichols and Jesse Gunter with six points apiece. Ayden Burdine added four, Carter Lasater, Dillon Young and Carson Breedlove three apiece and Rylan Perkins and Hyatt Gilmore two each.

Senior Girls

Alpena 61, Lead Hill 26

Alpena doubled up Lead Hill in the first period on the way to producing a 61-26 win.

The Lady Leopards led 22-11 after the first period and move their advantage to 41-19.

Only allowing four points in the third period, Alpena moved ahead, 58-23, with eight minutes to play.

Leading Alpena in scoring was Yaiza Gonzalez with 16 points. Laini Block added 14, Cassidy Ohler 10, Emily Wray and Bryanna McNair seven each, Crandall Eppes five and Talia Hilton two.

Alexus Egger had 12 points for Lead Hill. Lauryn Moon added seven, Kaydence Wilson five and Kayla Egger two.
