Mammoth repeats as state champions in 1A

HOT SPRINGS — The Mammoth Spring senior trio of Adrianna Corbett, Tay Davis and Brynn Washam wrapped up their highly-decorated prep careers in style while leading the Lady Bears to a 57-47 win over Norfork in Saturday afternoon's 1A state final.
They defeated Norfork (34-2) for the second consecutive year in the state championship game, led by Washam, the 1A state tournament's Most Valuable Player, who put up a game-high 22 points, along with 5 rebounds. Davis finished with 17 points and 9 rebounds, while Corbett had 12 points and pulled down 5 boards.
The game was tied at 16 with around 2:30 left in the first half, but the Lady Bears (40-5) went on a 10-2 run before heading to the locker room – then never looked back.
North Arkansas College signee Keely Blanchard led Norfork with 16 points and 5 steals, followed by Cate Shaddy with 15. Liza Shaddy also scored nine points and pulled down 6 rebounds.
The Class 1A Tournament started at North Arkansas College. The Lady Bears began the event with a win over Jasper, who was the No. 2 seed from Region 1.
In the quarterfinals Mammoth held Taylor, the winner of Region 4, to 24 points and claimed a 38-point win.
Facing Concord in the semifinals, Mammoth Springs downed their regional and conference rival, 57-44.
Norfork had an easy path to the finals. The closest game that they played before reaching the finals was in the first round when they defeated Alpena by 28 points. They had 31-point win over Emerson in the quarterfinals and a 36-point win over Marked Tree in the semifinals.
