I'm old. I'm before 3-point shooting old. I'm before seven fouls for an one-and-one, which has been changed this year.
I'm old enough that when visiting a professional football team's practice as a small child, players were smoking and drinking beer on the sidelines during practice.
This gives me a background when I make comments on the Florida State football situation.
For those not knowing, Florida State is an undefeated football team that won its conference championship and was left out of the College Football Playoffs.
Three decades ago, yes, 30 years, Florida State's football coach made a comment on the decision of the entire athletic program.
Bobby Bowden was a great coach and at the time, FSU (Free Shoes University...as they were called) listened to him concerning the direction of the school.
Bowden let people know that if they wanted a national championship that it would be easier to gain through the Atlantic Coast Conference.
So, FSU joined the ACC.
The history of the program shows very little success despite playing in a conference known for basketball. Outside of Clemson's little run a few years back, the ACC is still not known for football.
Last week, the College Football Playoff committee looked past FSU for a spot in the Final Four of college football.
