Valley Springs leaves OMSD with three victories

WESTERN GROVE — Five miles separate Ozark Mountain’s high school and Valley Springs’ high school.
The two schools met in basketball action that saw the visitors take off with three wins.
Valley Springs won both senior games. The Tigers collected a 79-47 win while the Lady Tigers won, 72-62.
Ozark Mountain claimed the junior boys game, 47-34. Valley Springs won the junior girls contest, 40-33.
Senior Boys
The Valley Springs senior boys outscored Western Grove, 43-24, in the second half to produce a 79-47 win.
Marcus Fields hit three 3-pointers in the first period as Ozark Mountain stayed close to Valley Springs as Logan Avery and Parker Spaw each scored six for the Tigers.
Nate Helams pitched in six and Avery added five as the Tigers added eight points to its lead in the second frame to lead, 36-23, at the halfway point.
Avery hit his third and fourth trey of the game in the third period and Helams scored nine points as the Tigers led, 61-39, with one period left.
Valley Springs was paced by Helams with 25 points. Avery added 21, Keyton Carnahan 13, Spaw eight, Blain Roberson seven, Donavan Wilson three and Kaedon Roberts two.
Ozark Mountain’s leading scorer was Tate Dixon with 16 points. Fields added nine, Kooper Baker seven, Mason Gilmore six, Cobie Chaney five and Jake Zemlik four.
Senior Girls
Points were flying as Valley Springs left Ozark Mountain with a 72-62 win.
The Lady Bears got three 3-pointers from Kierra Kleinert in the first period and another long shot from Kelly Middleton to take a 16-11 over Valley Springs at the first break.
Valley Springs came charging back in the second. Macy Willis and Laramie Watkins hit two 3-pointers each and Willis finished the quarter with 14 points as the visitors moved ahead, 34-32.
Both teams scored more than 20 points each with Willis netting 13 for Valley Springs and Middleton hitting nine for the Lady Bears.

Valley Springs solidified the win in the fourth.
Leading the Lady Tigers was Willis with 34 points. Violet Gamez and Watkins added nine each, Tayla Trammell eight and Eliza Drewry and Camie Moore six each.
Ozark Mountain was led by Kleinert with 21 points. Middleton added 16, Jasmine Fletcher and Tara Yocham 11 apiece and Brooklynn Tennison three.
Junior Girls
Valley Springs withstood a late Ozark Mountain rally in the fourth period to post a 40-33 win over the Junior Lady Bears.
The Junior Lady Tigers went into the fourth period with a 28-16 lead after holding Ozark Mountain to four points in each of the second and third frames.
After leading, 9-8, at the end of the first period, Valley Springs spread that lead to 16-12 at the midway point.
Leading Valley Springs in scoring was Olivia Keeter with 17 points. Blair Kendall and Jada Wray added six each, Reece Williams and Kinley Moore four apiece, Katie Riggins two and Raylee Rodman one.
Ozark Mountain was led by MaHaley Gilmore with 22 points. Brilee Keymer added eight and Hannah Wheeler three.
Junior Boys
The middle periods were the difference as Ozark Mountain downed Valley Springs 47-34.
After leading, 8-5, after the first break, Ozark Mountain outscored Valley Springs, 31-14, in the second and third frames.
Ozark Mountain led, 23-11, at halftime.
Leading the Junior Bears in scoring was Ben trammell with 14 points. Logan Sisco added 13, Sammie Riddell 11, Bentley Middleton four and Tayte Jackson three.
Valley Springs was led by Damien Derosier with 10 points. Colter Cantrell added seven, Sawyer Hartman and Jhett Melton six apiece and Zayd Yount two.
