Pirates runner-up in regional, headed to state

HARRISON — The Jasper Pirates worked through the brackets of the Class 1A Region 1 Baseball Tournament.
Facing Scranton in the finals, the Pirates didn’t have enough gas as the Rockets shot to an 11-1 win over Jasper in the tournament held in Harrison.
Opening the tournament on Thursday against Mulberry, Jasper recorded a 15-7 win in the opening round. That earned the team a trip to the state tournament.
In the semifinals, the Pirates managed just four runs to record a 4-0 win over the Indians.
That win earned Jasper the trip to the finals.
Jasper takes the No. 2 seed from the regional into the state tournament.
The Class 1A State Baseball Tournament is being hosted by Greers Ferry Westside. The tournament will host games at Westside and Heber Springs.
Jasper will be playing Norfork in Heber Springs at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Coming into the game, the Pirates are 13-7 overall. Norfork is 19-10.
The two teams met on March 5. The Panthers took a 15-4 win over the Pirates.
In Jasper’s seven losses, four of those are to teams in Class 2A and above.
