The Lady Pioneers of North Arkansas College had two players score 20 or more points on Thursday night in Pioneer Pavilion.
That combination of scoring helped the team to its first Region II win of the season. The Lady Pioneers defeated the University of Arkansas, Cossatot, 65-57. It was the first Region II loss of the season for the Lady Colts.
The Lady Pioneers had jumped out to a 17-8 lead at the first break.
Carsen Edwards started the night with a free throw for the Lady Pioneers. Then Cayley Patrick drained her first of four 3-pointers in the game.
A three-point play by Sydney Standridge gave the home team a 7-4 advantage.
Patrick scored again and Abby Hodges hit a shot.
Hitting four points in a row, Patrick had a field goal and two free throws. Edwards closed the scoring of the quarter to give the Lady Pioneers the nine-point lead.
Cossatot had five different players score in the second frame as they cut the Northark lead to five points at halftime.
The Lady Pioneers got seven of their 11 points from Patrick in the second period.
Edwards started the second half scoring for the Lady Pioneers as a 1-3-1 halfcourt trap gave the home team problems in the early part of the third period. The Lady Colts cut the score to two points at 30-28 early in the frame.
Kessa Willis and Standridge had six points each for the Lady Pioneers and Patrick added five as it was a 47-43 contest heading into the final period with the hometeam leading.
Standridge started the fourth period with a 3-pointer then followed it up with a bucket inside the paint.
Willis connected on one free throw before Patrick hit her fourth trey of the game.
Samantha George scored before Standridge scored on back-to-back possessions.
The last three points of the game came at the free throw line for the Lady Pioneers.
Hodges hit two of those and Willis added one.
Leading the Lady Pioneers in scoring was Patrick with 24 points. Standridge pitched in 20, Willis eight, Edwards five, Hodges and George four each.
