Northark splits with Shorter

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — North Arkansas College started the Region II season on Monday night with a trip to Shorter College in North Little Rock.
When the night was over, the Pioneers left with a victory, 84-67, while the Lady Pioneers fell to the Lady Bulldogs, 73-58.

Pioneers

North Arkansas College started the second semester with a bang. The Pioneers picked up a victory in the January opener, 84-67.
Northark’s record moves to 9-7 on the season and the team is now 1-0 in league play.
Thursday night the team host Southern Arkansas University Tech. This is Shorter College’s first season of sanctioned National Junior College Athletic Association basketball.

Lady Pioneers

Shorter outscored Northark in all four quarters on the way to posting a 73-58 win.
The Lady Bulldogs held a 19-16 lead after the first period and was on top at halftime, 33-27.
Shorter scored an 18-14 win in the third period and 22-17 in the final frame.
The Lady Pioneers hit 45.1 percent of their shots. They were 23-of-51 from the field.
They were 6-of-13 from behind the arc. Northark was 6-of-12 from the free throw line.
Leading the Pioneers in scoring was Sydney Standridge and Kailynn Garis with 14 points each. Abby Hodges added 12, Cayley Patrick 10 and Karsen Edwards eight.
Standridge had nine rebounds and Garis pulled off eight.
Patrick had three steals.
