JONESBORO — A Bay man is being held on a $125,000 cash bond after police said he was caught on camera stealing a gun from a car.

Special Judge Barbara Halsey found probable cause Friday to charge 34-year-old Scott Allen Brown with breaking or entering-articles from a vehicle and theft of a firearm, both Class D felonies.

According to the affidavit, the victim told police while his vehicle was at a local business on Caprice Parkway between July 17 and 30 getting repairs, someone stole his handgun.

A review of the dealership’s surveillance video reportedly showed a man drive up on July 18, get out of his vehicle, and enter the victim’s vehicle before driving off.

“Officers collected the information for the firearm and were able to locate a report indicating the handgun was seized on a July 19 arrest of Scott Brown,” the affidavit stated. “Brown’s booking photo was compared to the provided video from the original theft and he was positively identified as the subject committing the theft.”

Brown is scheduled to appear in circuit court on Sept. 30 for arraignment.
