LR Central boys, NLR girls atop high school polls

The second Arkansas Sports Media High School Basketball Polls were released Monday afternoon and there is a new overall No. 1 team on the boys’ side.
The Little Rock Central Tigers received 11 of the 14 first-place votes casts to ascend to the top of the boys’ rankings this week. The Tigers picked up two big victories over teams from Kansas City and St. Louis last week and is now the only unbeaten boys team left in 6A.
The Fayetteville Bulldogs rose from sixth to No. 2 this week after a victory over previous No. 1 North Little Rock. Springdale Har-Ber is tied with Fayetteville for second while North Little Rock fell from first to fourth.
Class 4A juggernaut Farmington remained fifth while 5A’s Russellville moved up a spot to No. 6. Pine Bluff left over Bryant for seventh, Little Rock Christian debuted at No. 9 and Jonesboro dropped from fourth to No. 10
The North Little Rock Lady Charging Wildcats got 13 of the 14 first-place votes to remain the overall team on the girls’ side. They are the last unbeaten team left in Class 6A.
The Farmington Lady Cardinals got the other first-place vote to remain second while the Cabot Lady Panthers stay at No. 3.
Fort Smith Northside jumped three spots to No. 4 and Nettleton also moved up three spots to No. 5. Conway, Vilonia and Greenwood each dropped two positions while LR Central and Bergman remained No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.
In the Class 6A boys’ rankings., the top four are the same as the Overall top four with Bryant holding down the No. 5 spot.
In the Class 6A girls’ rankings, all five teams remained the same as last week with the only difference being FS Northside and Conway switched placed.
In Class 5A boys, Russellville remains on top and Pine Bluff stays second. Benton debuts at No. 3, tied with Vilonia while Marion drops one to No. 5. The Harrison Goblins received their first votes of the season.
There is a change atop the Class 5A girls’ rankings as unbeaten Nettleton jumps from third to No. 1. However only four points separate the top three teams that also include Vilonia and Greenwood. Russellville remained fourth despite two losses last week while Van Buren debuts at No. 5.
There are lots of changes in Class 4A boys this week. Farmington remains first and LR Christian is still second but the other three teams are new. Undefeated Pulaski Academy debuts at No. 3, followed by Morrilton and Subiaco Academy, both from the 4A-4 Conference.
Farmington also rules the girls’ Class 4A rankings with Gentry at No. 2. Brookland and Star City act move up a spot while Nashville drops two to No. 5.
After beating previous No. 1 Bergman last Friday, unbeaten Elkins ascends to the top of the boys’ Class 3A rankings and Bergman falls to second. Dumas and Rivercrest rained third and fourth while the Valley Springs Tigers debut at No. 5.
The Bergman girls keep their top billing in the girls’ 3A rankings as the top four remain the same, including Lamar, Salem and Mayflower. Unbeaten Jessieville debuts at No. 5.
The Bigelow Panthers finally got their season under way over the previous two weeks and moved to the top spot of the boys’ Class 2A rankings. Cedar Ridge, last poll’s no. 1, dropped to no. 2 after a loss to Sloan-Hendrix. England moved up a spot to No. 3, Marshall dropped two to No. 4 and Riverside debuted at No. 5
In the girls’ Class 2A rankings, Mount Vernon-Enola keep rolling and are now 20-0 with a firm grip on the No. 1 position. Mansfield, also unbeaten, remains second. Riverside and Quitman exchange positions and Acorn remains at No. 5.
In the boys’ Class 1A rankings, the top four of Marked Tree, Brinkley, The New School and Concord remain the same while Bradley joins the rankings this week.
The top four in the girls’ Class 1A rankings also remain the same, including Mammoth Spring, Norfork, Marked Tree and Concord. Bradley joins the rankings at No. 5.
