Joe Nichols, 84, of Cave Creek

Joe Charles Nichols, 84, of Cave Creek, died in Jasper on Monday, Aug. 3 (2020). A memorial service for family and friends will be held. Private burial will be at the Nichols Family Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison.

The son of the late Truman and Dexter (Winstead) Nichols was born at Mt. Judea on May 18, 1936. He lived in Newton County most of his life, except a few years in Kansas City, where he also met his future wife, Barbara. He had attended Bethlehem Church in Mt. Judea, were he also worked on rebuilding the church after a fire destroyed the old building. In Kansas City, he worked as a welder, and in Arkansas, he worked as a logger and a carpenter, building many houses in Mt. Judea. He also retired from Arkansas Highway and Transportation after working there over 35 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; brothers, Deloine, Hershel, Loyd “Dent” and E.D.; his sister, Lou; a son-in-law, James Offenbacker and brothers-in-law, Roy Collins and DeVoe Ricketts,

Joe Charles is survived by his children and their spouses, Curtis and Ellen Nichols, of Cave Creek, Danny and Angela Nichols, of Western Grove, Roger and Lisa Nichols and Pamela Offenbacker, all of Harrison, Ronnie and Bertha Nichols, of Western Grove, Lisa and Robert Sutterfield, of Ozark, Michael Nichols, of Batavia and Amy and Randy Smith, of Vendor; two sisters, Sue Collins and Velma Ricketts both of Mt. Judea; a sister-in-law, Brenda Nichols,of Western Grove; 29 grandchildren a host of great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are his grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers are Dennis Shatwell, Larry Flud and his many friends.
