Giving thanks for Arkansas farmers

Posted

As a leading state in poultry production, Arkansas plays a significant role in supplying the country with the signature dish of Thanksgiving – the turkey. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Americans consume more than 46 million turkeys each year on Thanksgiving, many of which are produced in the Natural State.
The 4th District of Arkansas is blessed to be home to the country's largest Butterball whole bird hen processing facility. The facility in Ozark provides hundreds of jobs for Arkansans, producing millions of pounds of turkey annually. It's said that almost all the turkeys processed at the facility are destined for the Thanksgiving table. No matter where you may be this Thanksgiving, whenever you head to the local grocery store to buy your butterball turkey, it's safe to assume it could have been processed right here in Arkansas.
So often, it is easy to get caught up in politics and the division in our country. Thanksgiving is an opportunity to come together to give thanks, reflect on the year behind us, and look forward to the Holiday season. I wish you and your loved ones a happy and peaceful Thanksgiving, and I hope you will enjoy a home-grown Arkansas turkey!
