Arkansas motorists have been seeing a slight increase in fuel prices following the Fourth of July holiday season, but data shows that drivers still are seeing savings.
The statewide gas price average in Arkansas is $2.83 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Arkansas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is four cents more compared to this day last week and is 25 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year.
“A jump in gasoline demand comes as no surprise as AAA predicted 61.6 million Americans took road trips for the Independence Day holiday travel period, a new record,” said Nick Chabarria, AAA spokesperson. “Despite that, drivers are still seeing year over year savings of about a quarter per gallon at the pump.”
Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Arkansas, drivers in Texarkana are paying the most on average at $2.90, while drivers in Hot Springs and Jonesboro are paying the least at $2.77 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.17, which is one cent more compared to this day last week and 37 cents less compared to the price per gallon at this same time last year, according to AAA Gas Prices.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased from 8.64 million barrels per day last week to 9.15. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 232.1 million barrels to 229.5. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.9 million barrels per day.
