Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler said his office was contacted on the evening of Wednesday, June 25, about a person lying near the creek in Bradley Park that appeared to be deceased. Jasper Police Department, Newton County Sheriff’s Office and North Arkansas Regional Medical Center’s EMS were dispatched.
Upon arrival, officers and deputies found a middle-aged white female that was obviously deceased. It appeared she had possibly been dead for a few hours. Sheriff Wheeler then requested Arkansas State Police, Criminal Investigation Division to assist. The Newton County Coroner’s Office was also contacted.
Sheriff Wheeler said that, upon initial observations at the scene, there was no obvious indication of violence or trauma.
“Due to the unusual circumstances of where she was found, her relatively young age and other factors, we are submitting her body to the Medical Examiner’s office for further investigation,” Sheriff Wheeler said. “We have not yet been able to contact next of kin, so we can’t yet release her identity.”
