As life goes by

Such a good afternoon at the reception for Jeff Dezort sending him on to his retirement. There were so many people sharing the time with so many of his friends. I know the party was for Jeff, but I enjoyed the time visiting with so many people I haven’t seen in years. My friend, Carol Johnson, rode over to Jasper with me and she found so many people who had things of interest to her, as well. Jeff’s wife, daughter and son were there along with so many of his friends. Jerry Lynn Havens caught me up on who many of the people were. It is funny how we catch up as if no years have passed with people who we can’t remember their names until we talk for a while!
I found out there is a Jasper Alumni Contact page on Facebook which is being set up so we can know what is going on and how to make contact. Plans are being made to get together on Oct. 4, so pay attention for more information as we get closer to the date.
I dropped in at the museum to see about purchasing a book I read about all the time. Barbara LeRoy wrote “Which Side Were They On?” But, I bought “Old Folks Talking” by Jim Liles, instead. I will have to go back to get the one I meant to buy. Carol and I wished we had taken time to go through the museum. So we will make another trip and also go to Mt. Judea again to go through the Mercantile.
Living in Northwest Arkansas we have been watching the news for the killer of the couple at Devil’s Den State Park. Andrew McGann, 28, was caught at a barber shop in Springdale. His arraignment is set for Aug. 25.
Aug. 2 is Jane’s birthday. I was thinking that I was 1 ½ years of age when she was born. When I see Jackie’s great grandchildren about those ages I was thinking Mother had her hands full with two little ones and three older kids. Robert, Jackie, and Patty were teenagers when we were born. Then along came John David a couple of years later. Jane was two years old. We lived all of our lives where John and Wanda live now.

While reading the paper, I saw the state is seeking an increase in the election monitors. I was reading what they monitor at the sites and feel my site at NEBCO in Benton County is in great shape. All the things they shared that they monitor we do correctly.
The Razorback football team is practicing to be ready in four weeks on Aug. 30, playing Alabama A&M in Fayetteville for the first game. Sure they are enjoying the cooler weather to practice in. It is not always as cool the first of August for practice.
Reading the Compton news written by Matthew Piper was interesting. I visited with Betty Stivers of Mt. Sherman and found out some of the quilts she has donated that have been raffled off in the past are being recycled to be raffled off again. Some people who have won the quilts are not using them and know others will love getting one made by Betty. They will be selling tickets at the library in September for the next quilt.
Have a great week, stay healthy and happy!
