What a day! I have been thinking about Jeff retiring. I will miss him. He has been good to me and know many of the people in Newton County will miss him, as well. I started writing for the paper when Mother died 21 years ago. That is almost the same time Jeff started at Jasper. Hopefully, you will show up at his going away party on Friday, August 1.
Last week I wrote about Jane going to her grandson’s White Coat ceremony at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry in Memphis.
The story about Diamond Cave last week brought back many memories. We lived one half of the distance from Jasper to the cave. It was a dirt road and many people from “off” couldn’t figure how much further it was to the cave. They would stop at our house asking directions. We raised watermelons and we kids would sell them to anyone who stopped! It was a pretty good business! We loved Diamond Cave and knew it was the best cave we had ever gone through. Mother loved going through caves and we had seen many so we knew it was really outstanding. I am sorry it was never developed like Blanchard Cavern near Mountain View.
