Arkansas Historic Preservation Program to host cemetery preservation workshop

The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program (AHPP) will be hosting a free Cemetery Preservation Workshop at Huntsville Cemetery, Huntsville, on Saturday, October 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This hands-on workshop aims to educate and empower the community in the vital practice of cemetery preservation, fostering the retention of local history for generations to come.
Located at Huntsville Cemetery, Missouri Street and Cemetery Street, Huntsville, the Fall 2024 AHPP Cemetery Preservation Workshop will offer attendees the opportunity to delve into the basics of cemetery preservation. Jonathan Appell, founder of Atlas Preservation, will lead the workshop, providing invaluable insights and hands-on training in the techniques necessary to maintain and preserve historic burying grounds.
Throughout the day, participants will engage in cleaning, making basic repairs, and the leveling and straightening of gravestones. The workshop is designed to empower attendees with practical skills that will contribute to the ongoing preservation efforts of Huntsville Cemetery.
Agenda for October 5:

9 a.m. - Noon: Workshop introduction and overview, covering cleaning, leveling, and basic repairs.
Noon - 1 p.m.: Lunch provided by AHPP on the cemetery grounds.
1 p.m. - 4 p.m.: Continued hands-on sessions focusing on cleaning, leveling, and basic repairs.
