Senior center closed for July 4 holiday observance

The Newton County Senior Activity and Wellness Center in Jasper will be closed on Thursday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. There will be a fish fry and yard sale at the center on Friday, July 12.
The fish fry is drive through or dine in from 2-5 p.m. The meal costs $11 and includes: hand breaded fried fish or chicken strips, coleslaw, pinto beans, hushpuppies, pickled green tomatoes and peach crisp.
Meals at the center are offered to seniors for a $4 donation, Monday through Friday, from 11:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. All meals include 8 ounces of 2% milk. No age limit customers and carry out meals cost $6.

Wednesday - Taco salad, roasted corn and jalapeño blend, cinnamon roll and fresh cantaloupe.

Thursday - Closed in observance of Independence Day
Friday - Cheese manicotti with marinara sauce, Italian vegetables, spinach salad, wheat bread and banana.
Monday - Barbecued chicken, seasoned potatoes wedges, mixed vegetables, wheat bun and watermelon.
Tuesday - Roast turkey, gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, wheat roll and fruit parfait.
Wednesday - Stuffed green peppers, roasted corn, tossed salad and strawberries with topping.
