Pirates win No. 1 seed upcoming district

ALPENA — Alpena hosted Jasper on Thursday night in the last 1A-1East contest for the Leopards.
Jasper defeated Alpena, 65-33, to claim the top seed in the upcoming district tournament. Alpena earned the fourth seed.
In senior girls action, Jasper won the contest, 68-38.
Jasper won the junior boys contest, 45-35, and the junior girls game, 48-22.
Alpena moves to Class 2A next season.

Senior Boys

Jasper’s senior boys turned the second half into a win as they defeated Alpena, 65-33.
The Pirates held a 27-22 lead at halftime.
Scoring 23 points in the third period, the Pirates outscored Alpena, 23-3.
Malijah Campbell and Blake Williams had six each for the Pirates as they moved ahead, 50-25, with a period left.
Seven different Pirates scored in the last period to seal the win.
Jasper finished the conference race with a 10-2 mark. They tied with Kingston, but the Pirates beat the Yellow Jackets in both meetings to earn the top seed in the district tournament.
Leading Jasper in scoring was Sawyer Willis with 15 points. Williams added 14, Ty Williams 12, Campbell seven, Spencer Traywick and Canaan Hudson six each, Kaden Moore and Aden McDaniel two apiece and Max Davis one.
Alpena was led by Jaxon Woods with 11 points. Slade Harp added nine, Hayden Jones and Tuck Savage four each, Eric Rodriguez three and Brendon Adams two.

Senior Girls

Jasper put 28 points on the board in the first period on the way to posting a 68-38 win.
Willa Young had eight first period points with Laney Daniels and Maggie Thomas scoring six points each. Thomas’ points came from behind the arc with two 3-pointers.

The Lady Pirates moved ahead, 36-11, at halftime.
Alpena started to score in the third period, but the Lady Pirates had too big of a lead. Alpena won the third period, 20-17.
Jadeyn Middleton had 22 points to lead Jasper. Young and Daniels added 13 each, Thomas nine, Tiana Siebert six, Charlee Breedlove three and Raye Stokes two.
Laini Block and Yaiza Gonzalez had 14 points each for Alpena. Cradell Eppes added five and Bryanna McNair three.

Junior Boys

The Jasper junior boys claimed the top seed in the upcoming district tournament with a 45-35 win over Alpena.
The Junior Pirates led 12-3 at the first break and 20-8 at halftime.
Alpena cut into the Jasper lead in the third period by outscoring the visitors, 14-12.
Both teams hit for 13 in the final frame.
Leading Jasper in scoring was Jase Willis with 19 points. Jayce Rylee added 14, Grady Hankins six, Aaron Thomas four and Tate Smith two.
Alpena was led by Alex Ragland with 11 points. Donovan Berry, Brodie Berry and Dalton Carnahan added eight each.

Junior Girls

Alpena fell behind early and couldn’t catch up to Jasper. They lost the game, 48-22.
Jasper led 17-5 after the first period and 23-7 at halftime.
Leading Jasper in scoring was Delaney Redell with 15 points. Kylee Carlton added 11, Rylea Martin seven, Jessa Edgmon six, Paisley Manen and Camber Shrum five each and Kinley Stephens two.
Talia Hilton and Emily Wray scored six points apiece for Alpena. Ashlynn Matthews added four, Blair Eppes and Gracie Harrison two each and Candice Moon and Addi Bryant one apiece.
