Pioneers hit double digits in wins

WEST PLAINS, Mo. — It is a rarity that a team can put up 10 wins in a month.
That is not the case for the Pioneers of North Arkansas College.
The Pioneers traveled to West Plains, Mo. to play two games in the annual classic hosted by Missouri State University, West Plains. When it was over, Northark raised its record to 10-2, with a 83-71 win over Morton College on Friday night and a 78-71 win over Arkansas State University, Newport.
Northark 83, Morton 71
The Pioneers of Northark outscored Morton College by nine points in the second half to post an 83-71 win.
Northark made a living at the free throw line. The team shot 54 free throws in the contest.
I’Ryan Allen shot 12 of those tosses. He made 11.
The Pioneers were 39-of-54 from the free throw line in the win.
Leading the team in scoring was Kardell Sims with 20 points. Allen added 17, Mat Jones 12, James Parlow 11, Curtis Fowler seven, Jordyn Turner six, Isaiah Payne and Javon Calmese three each and Jai Graham and Kelsey Tarver two apiece.
Sims led the team with nine rebounds and Jones, Parlow and Turner had seven each.
Allen had three steals.
Northark 78, ASU, Newport 71
The Pioneers only shot 41.2 percent for the game against Arkansas State University, Newport, but the Pioneers won the first meeting of the two schools, 78-71.
Newport added basketball to its school this season.
The Pioneers led at halftime, 43-37.
Leading Northark in scoring was Jones with 19 points. Parlow added 13, Allen and Turner 10 apiece, Fowler eight, Carson Tangness and Calmese six apiece, Sims four and Payne two.
Jones had a double double with 10 rebounds. Sims had nine and Allen seven.
Allen had five assists and four steals.
