Jasper wins NC battle with Ozark Mountain

WESTERN GROVE — Ozark Mountain hosted Jasper to battle for supremacy in Newton County.

The night ended with Jasper scoring a 77-59 win over the Bears.

Ozark Mountain was consistent in scoring. The Bears netted 13 points in each of the first three periods.

Jasper moved out to a 21-13 lead at the first break. Sawyer Willis hit two 3-pointers and had nine points in the period and Spencer Traywick added six.

Mason Gilmore took over the scoring duties for the Bears in the second. He had six points.

Ozark Mountain won the second period to make it a 32-26 contest going into halftime.

Jasper split the game open in the third. The Pirates hit six 3-pointers. Willis got three of those, Blake Williams added two. Williams had eight points in the frame and Canaan Hudson hit the last 3-pointer for the Pirates.

The Pirates outscored Ozark Mountain, 24-13, in the frame to take a 56-39 lead into the final period of play.

Tate Dixon had seven points which included a trey and Marcus Fields added two 3-pointers in the frame to account for all of the Bears points in the third.

Williams hit 5-of-6 free throw attempts and added a basket to help the Pirates secure the win. Espn Daniels and Ty Williams added four points each for the Pirates in the final eight minutes of play.

Willis led Jasper with 25 points. He had seven 3-pointers. Blake Williams added 21, Hudson and Traywick eight each, Malijah Campbell seven and Ty Williams four.

Dixon led Ozark Mountain with 20 points. Gilmore chipped in 12, Fields six, Kooper Baker, Cobie Chaney and Jacob Campbell four each, Kayden Sanders three and Garrett Foster, Isaiah Pearson Jake Zemlik two apiece.
