Jasper teams split with Omaha

OMAHA — As the first semester of basketball comes to a close, Omaha and Jasper battled on the hardwoods in Omaha.
When the basketball night was over on Tuesday, Omaha won two boy games and Jasper won two girl games.
The Eagles defeated Jasper, 50-40, in senior boys action. The Junior Eagles also owned a one-point win, 24-23.
In senior girls action, the Lady Pirates won, 67-30. The Junior Lady Pirates won, 44-13.

Senior Boys

It was a slow scoring night for both teams, but Omaha hung on for a 50-40 win.
Heading into the last period, Omaha held a 37-32 advantage. The Eagles outscored Jasper, 13-8, in the last period.
Omaha held a 14-5 lead at the first break. Dylan Greenwood hit two 3-pointers and a bucket to go along with six points from Briar Whitehurst.
Blake Williams and Spencer Traywick each had a basket for the Pirates in the first frame.
Omaha added another point to its lead in the second. Greenwood had a trey and bucket for the Eagles as Jasper got points from four different players in the frame which included a 3-pointer from Williams.
Omaha led, 24-14, at the midway point.
Jasper scored 18 points in the third period to pull within the five points heading into the fourth quarter.

Senior Girls

Jasper ran away from Omaha in claiming a 67-30 win over the Lady Eagles.
Five different Lady Pirates scored in the first period as Laney Daniels had eight of those points.
Jadeyn Middleton and Tiana Siebert each knocked down four for the Lady Pirates.
Molly Crouch had Omaha’s lone basket.
Peyton Matlock heated up for Omaha in the second period. The sophomore hit two free throws and knocked down two treys for eight points. Remington Crouch had a a trey and a free throw for Omaha.

Omaha outscored Jasper, 16-14, in the second. Ray Stokes had six points for the Lady Pirates and Middleton added five.
Jasper put the game away in the third as Middleton and Willa Young scored seven points each.
Leading Jasper in scoring was Middleton with 16 points,. Young added 13, Daniels 12, Maggie Thomas nine, Stokes eight, Siebert seven and Charlee Breedlove two.
Omaha was led by Matlock with 10 points. Remington Crouch added nine, Clara Alford seven and Maddie Pyshny and Molly Crouch two each.

Junior Boys

Jasper missed some opportunities at the end of the game as Omaha won the contest, 24-23.
Omaha scored an 11-5 lead at the end of the first period.
The game was tied at 15 at halftime.
Omaha moved back in front, 21-19, with a quarter left.
Leading Omaha in scoring was Brett Arnold with 14 points. Edward Winchester scored five, Aiden Williams three and Blake McAlister two.
Jasper was led by Jase Willis and Grady Hankins with six points each. Tate Smith and Jayce Rylee had four apiece and Aaron Thomas three.

Junior Girls

Jasper jumped to a 23-5 halftime lead on the way to posting a 44-13 win.
The Junior Lady Pirates led 11-4 at the first break. They held Omaha to a single point in the second period.
In the third, the Junior Lady Pirates scored 17 points.
Leading Jasper in scoring was Kylee Carlton with 19 points. Delaney Reddell added 10, Camber Shrum seven, Paisley Manen three, Emmy Denniston and Kinley Stephens two each and Rylea Martin one.
Kayla Hamilton had four points for Omaha. Addi Blocker, Kaden Gilbert and Kandyce Tindall added three apiece.
