Jasper boys roll to big win

HUNTSVILLE — Last season the Jasper Pirates failed to make the Class 1A State Basketball Tournament.

This year they left do doubt where they would be next week.

Wednesday night in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament in Huntsville, Jasper defeated Mulberry, 79-55. That earned the team a trip to the Class 1A State Basketball Tournament that will be in Harrison at North Arkansas College.

Blake Williams and Spencer Traywick hit three field goals each in the first quarter for Jasper.

Sawyer Willis and Malijah Campbell were each 2-of-2 from the free throw line. Jasper jumped out to a 17-6 first period lead.

The Pirates turned to the long ball in the second.

Jasper hit four long shots. Willis had two of those and Canaan Hudson and Williams had one each.

Williams ended the frame with eight points while Willis had six and Hudson and Traywick had five each.

Jasper led 41-22.

Mulberry only lost a point to Jasper in the third period. Traywick led the Pirates with eight points.

In the fourth, Campbell had nine points for Jasper to secure the big win.

Leading the Pirates in scoring was Traywick with 21. Williams added 19, Campbell and Willis 16 each, Hudson five and Espn Daniels two.
