Kingston drops double digit lead in last three minutes

HARRISON — With 3:01 left in the game, the Kingston Lady Yellow Jackets were ahead by 10 points on Wednesday in the Class 1A State Basketball Tournament being held at North Arkansas College.
When the game was over, the Lady Yellow Jackets were on the short end of a 53-48 game. The loss was to Marked Tree and ended the season for the team.
Omaha is hosting the tournament.
Kingston struggled from the field in the first half.
The Lady Yellow Jackets went almost three minutes before Paige Randall scored the first basket of the game for Kingston.
Rilee Pittman drained a trey for Kingston and then Emma Kivell scored to give the top seed from Region 1 a 7-2 lead.
The Lady Indians scored the next eight points to end the period.
Pittman started the scoring in the second for Kingston. She hit a layup and after a Lady Indian bucket inside, Kingston scored the next eight points.
Randall started the run and then Lila Hartness hit a free throw. Hartness then had another trip to the line and she knocked down two free throws.
She finished the streak with a three-point play to give the Lady Yellow Jackets a 17-12 lead.

Hartness had one more free throw in her before halftime. Kingston settled for an 18-16 lead.
Kingston jetted out in the third period and a Hartness offensive rebound turned into a made basket as the buzzer sounded.
The Lady Yellow Jackets led, 40-29.
Hartness hit two free throws to start the fourth period and Kingston led 42-29.
Marked Tree scored the next five points to pull within eight points, but Hartness scored again and Pittman hit a bucket to make it 46-34.
It was at that point things started going down hill.
Marked Tree hit a shot to make it a 10-point game and then the Lady Indians went to the free throw line to cut the Kingston lead to eight points.
With 47.6 seconds left in the game, Marked Tree held their first lead since the 5:06 mark of the second period at 48-47.
Hartness led the Lady Yellow Jackets in scoring with 20 points. Randall added eight, Pittman and Fancher six each, Kivell five and Callie Edgmon three.
