Jasper boys leave Kingston with a tie

KINGSTON — Friday night was a big night for 1A-1East basketball.
The Pirates of Jasper were trailing Kingston by a game in the conference race. When Jasper left town, the Pirates had a tie.
Both teams are now 9-2 in league play and Jasper holds the tie-breaker with the Yellow Jackets. Jasper won the game, 66-63.
In other action, the Junior Pirates defeated Kingston, 49-20.

Senior Boys

Kingston had to come from behind in the fourth period to post a 66-63 win.
Heading into the final period, the Yellow Jackets were ahead, 46-45.
Sawyer Willis scored nine points in the final period. Blake Williams added six points in the frame as well.
Chism Floyd started the scoring for Kingston. The senior scored nine points in the first period and Josh Cooper hit two treys and Colton Clemons nailed one as the Yellow Jackets jumped out to an 18-16 lead.
Jasper had six players score in the second. Blake Williams was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line in the frame. Ty Williams and Willis each scored four points.

Jasper led at halftime, 34-33.
Clemons scored eight points in the third for Kingston as the Yellow Jackets led, 46-45, with eight minutes left.
Leading Jasper in scoring was Willis with 22 points. Blake Williams added 17, Malijah Campbell and Ty Williams 10 each, Spencer Traywick six and Canaan Hudson one.
Kingston was led by Clemons with 21 points. Floyd added 17, Ethan Clark 11, Caleb Parker and Cooper six each and Hunter Farrar two.

Junior Boys

Jasper held Kingston to six points in the second half on the way to producing a 49-20 win.
The Junior Pirates led 11-4 at the end of the first period and 26-14 at halftime.
Leading Jasper in scoring was Jase Willis with 14 points. Jayce Rylee added 11, Tate Smith nine, Aaron Thomas eight, Grady Hankins three and Kolby Middleton and Jeryn Lager two apiece.
Ty Floyd led Kingston with 13 points. Conan Kilbourn added four, Levi Barnett two and Trey Walker one.
