Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission marks 50th year with celebration at Rattlesnake Ridge Natural Area

Posted

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission (ANHC) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with an event on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 1:30 p.m. at Rattlesnake Ridge Natural Area in Roland. The celebration will feature speakers including past directors, partners, employees, commissioners and Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism Secretary Shea Lewis, followed by two rounds of 45-minute field trips in the natural area.
Due to limited parking at the natural area, guests will park at Pinnacle Mountain State Park’s overflow parking area, 11599 Barrett Rd., Roland, and will be shuttled to Rattlesnake Ridge Natural Area from the parking area. Shuttles will begin running at 12:45 p.m.

Established in 1973, ANHC works to conserve the natural heritage of Arkansas by protecting our state’s diverse natural communities and the species of plants and animals they support for future generations. It currently has 79 natural areas with 74,075 acres spread across 50 of the state’s 75 counties. Natural areas are open to the public and offer an experience more “off the beaten path” than places like state or city parks, exchanging amenities for a more nature-oriented experience.
