Wonder Boys take GAC Regular Season Championship out-right with series sweep of Harding

Posted

RUSSELLVILLE — With a doubleheader sweep of Harding in hand heading into the final game of the regular season on Saturday, there were two scenarios in play that would crown the Arkansas Tech baseball team GAC Regular Season Champions.
The first was beat Harding to complete the series sweep. If that was not accomplished, then Tech needed Southern Arkansas to lose Arkansas-Monticello. As Saturday played out, it turned out that the second option was not needed whatsoever as the Wonder Boys took care of their own business and beat Harding 4-1.
The Wonder Boys have now won four GAC Regular Season Championships under head coach Dave Dawson and have gone back-to-back. Tech has also won three since 2021, and this year's title is the second out-right championship in the GAC joining the 2014 out-right champions. Overall, the Wonder Boys' baseball program has won 10 regular season conference championships.

As the conference champion, the Wonder Boys will now be the No. 1-seed in the upcoming GAC Tournament and will be in Bracket 1 along with the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 8 seeds. The first weekend of the tournament is being held at the David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, Okla. and is scheduled to take place May 1-4.
The winner of Bracket 1 in Enid will then come back the following weekend and play the winner of Bracket 2 in a best-of-three series May 9-10 on the campus site of the highest-remaining seed.
