Newton County resident and US Navy veteran Robert Roberson was recently honored by Stone Bank in
Harrison by naming him the financial institution's Veteran of the Month.
The bank announced Roberson for the honor noting that he joined the U.S. Navy in 1956. After boot camp he was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was trained as an aircraft engine mechanic and flew as a second mechanic on the P2V Patrol Bomber.
After his service, Roberson joined American Legion Post 93, which he has been involved in over 12 years.
He has also been a volunteer for the Hasty volunteer Fire Department for 26 years.
