The Newton County Hometown Health Initiative, in collaboration with county and municipal governments of Newton County, would like to invite the community to take a visible stand against drugs by celebrating Red Ribbon Week, held annually, Oct. 23-31.
Red Ribbon Week raises awareness of drug use, and the problems related to drugs facing our communities, and encourages parents, educators, business leaders, and other community organizations to promote drug-free lifestyles.
“Red Ribbon Week encourages our entire community to adopt healthy, drug-free lifestyles,” said Jeff Dezort chair of Hometown Health and its new Partners in Prevention coalition which recently received a federal Drug Free immunities grant. Research shows children are less likely to use alcohol and other drugs when parents and other community role models are clear and consistent in their opposition to drug use and the misuse of prescription drugs.
