The Newton County Partners in Prevention (PIP) Coalition hosted a Pickleball and Prevention workshop for students at Jasper High School. PIP collaborated with the North Arkansas Partnership for Health Education’s (NAPHE) Regional Prevention Provider Program to deliver a brief presentation on SAMHSA’s 8 Dimensions of Wellness: Emotional, Spiritual, Intellectual, Physical, Environmental, Financial, Occupational, and Social along with how substance use prevention strategies can be incorporated through sports and physical activity.
Participating students then went on to learn the basic skills needed for Pickleball, as well as compete against each other through game matches under the direction/coach of Jasper Police Officer and Arkansas Tech University Tennis Coach Shaun Wiseman.
PIP project coordinator Bailey Taylor and the entire coalition wants to thank the Newton County Library, volunteers Pat Dixon, Anna Borg, Joan Miller, Alma, Red Oak Station in Jasper, and Mariela Martinez for their time and donations/sponsorships to this project.
