George Fowler, of Jasper, a member of the contingent of senior athletes from the Newton County Senior Activity and Wellness Center in Jasper, had the honor of delivering the torch to the 38th annual Northwest Arkansas Senior Games' track, field and fun events held Thursday, May 1, at the F.S. Garrison Stadium and Cash Center, Harrison Senior High School. The Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Arkansas sponsors the event each year. The competitions include events for the serious competitor as well as a host of recreational and fun games including: a wide variety of walks, dashes, and runs, even a 3K run; shot put, running long jump, javelin, and standing long jump; dominoes, baggo, Daisy® air gun, softball throw, stationary cycling, basketball shoot, spin casting, football throw, nail pounding, Skip-Bo, and a balloon bust relay. The competitions are divided into age groups. Medals are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The games are open to people age 50 and older and pre-registration is required.
