Matt Robbins named GAC Player of the Week

RUSSELLVILLE, — Arkansas Tech senior catcher Matt Robbins has been named as the latest Great American Conference Baseball Player of the Week as it was announced by the league office on Monday.

Robbins shares the award as a Co-player of the week with Ouachita's Louis Steen. He is also the sixth different Wonder Boy to earn a weekly conference honor and is the third to be a player of the week.

In earning the plaudit, Robbins was one of the offensive catalysts for the Wonder Boys in their three-game sweep of Henderson State over the weekend. With multiple hits in all three games, Robbins ended up hitting .667 for the weekend, going 8-for-12 with three runs scored, a double, two home runs and six RBIs. He would slug at a clip of 1.250 and was on base at a mark of .692.

The two home runs were the first of the season for Robbins.

With his big weekend at the plate, Robbins lifted his season batting average from .351 to .387.

Robbins and the Wonder Boys are preparing to make their final road trip of the regular season this coming weekend as they head to Weatherford, Okla. to take on Southwestern Oklahoma. The three-game series is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 16 at 2 p.m.
