Posted

The members of the Marble Falls Sewer Improvement District Board of Commissioners met at the Newton County Library in Jasper Tuesday morning, March 5, and passed a resolution to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Arkansas Department of Agriculture to accept and agree to pay off the debt on a loan from the department's Natural Resources Commission in the amount of $609,614.
The loan, along with a grant of $1 million, also from the Arkansas Department of Agriculture, will help the sewer district with a rehabilitation project to improve both its wastewater system and its treatment plant to aid the current customer base of 24 users plus help with future growth.
The loan comes from the sale of bonds. The grant comes from the Water Sewer Solid Waste Fund Program.
Sarah Giammo, of the law firm Friday, Eldredge and Clark. LLP, presented the information about the resolution approving the MOU, the bond issue and debt payments to the commission via telephone.
Present were commissioners Tom Welch, Raymond Hefley and Chairman Ron Graham and Allyn Irvin, Big Cedar Lodge senior projects manager overseeing the development of the Marble Falls Nature Park on the former Dogpatch USA theme park property at Marble Falls.

The resolution repealed the original version passed in 2022. It notes the name change of the project engineer and several dates of importance.
The closing date on the bonds is now set for April 1, 2024. The final date to draw down the funds from the loan will be Nov. 1, 2026. The loan will be for 20 years, ending at maturity on Nov. 1, 2046. The interest rate is 1.75%.
A report given during the recently held meeting of the Buffalo River Conservation Committee noted the Marble Falls Water Project's engineering plans have been completed are in the process getting permits from the Arkansas Department of Health. Once the permits are received the project can be let out for bids.
