Posted

The UAMS Mobile MammoVan and this year's annual flu vaccination clinic have been scheduled at the Newton County Health Unit.
Health Unit Manager Erika Houston recently announced at the monthly Newton County Hometown Health and Newton County Local Emergency Planning Committee meetings that the MammoVan will visit the health unit at 506 West Court Street, Jasper, on Wednesday, Aug. 28, beginning at 8 a.m.
The UAMS Mobile MammoVan will provide on-site screening mammograms. This service is provided by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. If you do not have insurance, there are assistance programs available.
This service is provided to women age 40 and over who are due for a mammogram. Contact UAMS Mobile Mammography at 1-800-259-8794 to make an appointment. (Before your appointment you may receive an estimate of cost/no surprise letter in the mail. Please bring your insurance and it will be filed as usual. This is not a bill.)
The county-wide flu vaccine clinic will be held at the health unit on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. This will be a drive-through clinic. The vaccine will be administered in the parking lot. You will not have to exit your vehicle. As always, there is no out-of-pocket expense for flu shots, but you are encouraged to bring insurance information if you have it, Houston said.
Flu vaccines will also be distributed at public schools in the county during October. The schedule is as follows:
Deer School, Oct. 16; Jasper School, Oct. 17; Mt. Judea School, Oct. 21 and Western Grove School/Ozark Mountain High School, Oct. 24.
