Long time fugitive arrested

Posted

Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler reported Monday, Feb. 3, his office, along with the Jasper Police Department, the Arkansas State Police, Arkansas Probation and Parole and the National Park Service executed a search warrant in the Wayton area and arrested Abraham Campbell, 41, for multiple warrants from multiple agencies. Wheeler said he had spoken by phone with Campbell weeks ago and Campbell had agreed to come turn himself in, but Cambell had failed to do so. Sheriff Wheeler said he wasn’t surprised by Campbell not keeping his word.
“Mr. Campbell has been a problem for our county and community for some time, I’m glad we were able to catch up to him. He has run from various law enforcement agencies in recent months, at least once with his young children unsecured in the car. That time, the seats weren’t even bolted in the floor of the car and the kids were not buckled in. He still chose to flee from law enforcement, wrecked his car and fled on foot, abandoning the children. So, he’s finally where he should have been a long time ago.”
Wheeler said the agencies in addition to Newton County that had warrants for Campbell have been notified of Campbell’s apprehension and Newton County is awaiting pending warrants as well.
