Jasper opens state softball with Taylor

MOUNTAIN HOME — When it comes to postseason play, the desire is to advance to the next tournament.
The Jasper Lady Pirates advanced to the Class 1A State Softball Tournament that begins on Thursday.
Jasper will be playing on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. as they face Taylor. The tournament is being held in Harrison.
The Lady Pirates earned their way to the tournament with a first round victory over Western Yell County in the Class 1A Region 1 Softball Tournament that was being held in Mountain Home.
Jasper defeated Western Yell, 10-7, to advance to the semifinals of the event.

In the semifinals that were played on Thursday, the Lady Pirates fell short while playing County Line.
The Lady Indians won the contest, 8-1.
With the semifinal loss, Jasper moved to the consolation bracket. Playing Magazine, the Lady Pirates were fighting for seeding in the state tournament.
In a football score, Magazine defeated Jasper, 13-7.
Other 1A-1 teams, Lead Hill, Omaha and Norfork, all lost in the first round of the regional tournament. Their season ended in that event.
