JASPER — The 2019-20 school year will long be remembered for the COVID-19 pandemic and the efforts made to educate students while protecting them and staff members from the virus. The school district worked to adequately present lessons both in-person and remotely through digital technology, but it's 2021-22 improvement plan's overarching goal is to reach a high level of validity and reliability to address "learning loss" from the pandemic.
At its regular monthly meeting April 19, the Jasper School District Board of Education received and approved the District Improvement Plan along with School Literacy plans submitted from each of its schools at Jasper, Kingston and Oark.
The detailed plans address the school district's overall goals: Curriculum, assessment and instructional planning; providing a tiered system of instruction and behavior supports and interventions; monitoring enthusiastic, creative and sound instruction by way of student directed, small group and independent work and with family engagement in a school community. Each of the schools' literacy plans vary, but they state how they will reach the district's goals.
Superintendent Dr. Candra Brasel said the goals will strengthen overall literacy. As a result they should correct any learning loss that might have happened during the pandemic.
The plan might have to be adjusted depending on the future expectations of the state education department.
