Fridays cleared from Deer/Mt. Judea calendar

DEER — The Deer/Mt. Judea School District Board of Education met Monday, April 26, and adopted the official school calendar for the 2021-2022 school year, clearing Fridays, as the school district will adhere to a four-day school week.
The calendar reflects the decision to go to fewer, but longer days made earlier in the month after surveying staff, students and holding public hearings with parents and school district patrons.
Classes will begin on Monday, Aug. 16.
The calendar includes four parent/teacher conference days. thanksgiving break will be Nov. 22-25, semester break Dec. 27-30 and spring break, March 21-24. Four other holidays will be observed: Labor Day, Sept. 6; Veteran's Day, Nov. 11; Dr. Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 17 and Presidents' Day, Feb. 21.
The last day of school will be May 25.
Graduation ceremonies for each of the schools' seniors will be held on May 14 , 2022. Schools will alternate conducting daytime and evening ceremonies.
Mt. Judea's class of 2021 will graduate at 7 p.m. May 13 and the Deer class of 2021 will graduate on May 14 at 7 p.m.
The school board approved this year's senior trips to Gulf Shores.
