Saturday, Nov. 2 was a busy day on the mountain. The Compton Community Association hosted Compton Community Day on Saturday from 12-4 p.m. The Hilltop Ladies Auxiliary hosted the dinner and quilt auction from 5-8 p.m. Everyone was invited to attend both events and help support our communities.
My great-aunt Della Mae Lanter helped with the Ladies Auxiliary at Hilltop for many years. She went every Tuesday to help quilt. At that time there were several ladies helping. They always had a good lunch, which I got to enjoy once in a while. We have many good memories of those days.
On Sunday, Oct. 27, Debra Villines and Paulette Jech hosted a Fall birthday party for several members of their families at the Compton home of their dad, Paul Scroggins. Those attending who had fall birthdays were John, Karen, and Jason Jech, Brandon and Alyssa Hargrave, Zachary Adams, and Paul Scroggins, who turned 93 on October 30. Also attending were Jeff Jech, who fried cat fish, Gary Villines, Zayleigh Hargrave, Jacque Adams, Eloise Adams, and Marvin Sims.

I grew up around Paul and Faye Scroggins at Compton. They were good friends to my great-uncle and great-aunt Grover and Hazel Edgar. Paul and Faye always treated us like family. Paulette and my mother are the same age, and Debra married Gary Villines, who is our cousin on the Villines side, so we have a lot of connections with this good family.
Addi and I took dinner and celebrated the birthday of my cousin, Sandra Youngblood, of Hilltop, on Thursday evening. She is very special to all of us, and we are glad she is doing so well after knee replacement surgery. We enjoyed our visit with Sandy and Darrell.
The Fall Festival at New Hope Full Gospel Church was well attended. There were games and pony cart rides for the younger folks. Good food and fellowship were enjoyed by everyone who attended.
