Newton County Road Department is working along 1.8 miles of Cave Mountain Road (NC 9560) starting at state Highway 21. The county estimates that from March 22 to April 9 this section of road will be closed to traffic Monday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will remain open in the evenings and on the weekends.
Locations along this road, such as the U.S. Forest Service-managed Whitaker Point Trail (also known as Hawksbill Crag) can still be accessed via Highway 16.
