Back to School: Plant science grant for OMHS

At the recent July meeting of the Ozark Mountain School District Board of Education, it was announced the high school received a plant science start up grant in the amount of $90,534.52 for a new greenhouse at the high school.The grant was one of the highest amounts awarded in the state.
The school district received a grant from EdRoot Wichitas will fully fund a career coach at the high school. The grant is valued at $193,000.
The school board approved changes to the handbook, including banning cell phones up through the 8th grade. Last year's policy was through 6th grade.

Superintendent Jeff Lewis said Yondr cell phone pouches for all the HS students have been ordered, but will not implement a complete ban until the school administration can gather stakeholder input and discuss this further with the board. The state has awarded grant money to every district for a pouch system. "We will be approaching this slowly and with caution until we can gather more data," Lewis said.
The board also accepted propane bids, ASBA midyear policy updates, and approved some purchase service agreements.
