Northark has two players of week

Kenny Chambers of North Arkansas College shoots a layup in Pioneer Pavilion. The Willard, Mo. native was selected as the National Junior College Athletic Association Region II player of the week.

The basketball season for North Arkansas College is only three weeks old.

However, the college is able to sport some highly recognizable things. Two athletes have been selected as Region II players of the week.

The first one recognized was Kenny Chambers of Willard, Mo. The sophomore Pioneer has opened the season in fine fashion.

Northark’s men team is 8-1 on the season and Chambers has had an important hand in the success of the team.

Through the first nine games of the season, he has averaged 17 points a game. He is shooting 58.6 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from behind the arc.

He is hitting 82.1 percent of his free throw attempts. He averages 7.0 assists a game and 3.3 rebounds a contest. He season high was 26 against South Arkansas Community College.

Local product Kelcee Hopper of Berryville was selected from the Lady Pioneers for the honor. She has helped her team to a 5-1 record.

In the team’s only loss, Hopper hit a shot with just 4 seconds remaining to put the team ahead.

However, the other team hit a shot as the clock sounded to defeat the Lady Pioneers.

During Hopper’s time on the floor for the Lady Pioneers she is averaging 12.5 points a contest for the nationally ranked Lady Pioneers. She is hitting 55.3 percent of her shots and 71.9 percent from the free throw line.

Hopper is pulling down 7.3 rebounds a game.

She had a season high 17 points against Evangel.
