Johnnie Carroll Hamilton, 89, of Russellville, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019. Graveside service is at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, Russellville, 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 25. Arrangements made by Humphrey Funeral Service in Russellville.

He was born in Bass on July 31, 1930. His parents were Leander William and Nerva Ann McCutchen Hamilton. He attended Arkansas Polytechnic College (Arkansas Tech University), where he worked his way through school, becoming employed in the college business office upon graduation in 1952. He retired from the position of University Controller after 42 years.

He joined the Arkansas National Guard in 1947 and served in the 217th Engineer Battalion, 39th Infantry Division. In 1983 he began serving in the US Army Reserve until his retirement in 1990, obtaining the rank of Colonel.

He was a member of several organizations, including the Russellville Civil Service Commission, of which he was a charter member, the American Legion, and the Military Officers Association of America. He was also a member and past President of the Russellville Lions Club. Johnnie and his wife, Carolee, attended West Side Church of Christ for many years.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his step-father, James Lee Dickey; two brothers, Oxford and James Hamilton; a sister, Edith McCutcheon; two stepbrothers, Lowell and Flavil Dickey; and a stepsister, Francis McCutcheon.

Johnnie is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carolee Cable Hamilton; two daughters, Donna Davenport, of Bartlett, Tennessee, and Carolyn Stewart, of Conway; a sister, Elisabelle Greenhaw, of Harrison; a stepbrother, Russell Dickey, of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Garry and Michael Stewart, Doug, Derek, and Davis Davenport, and David Mouser. Memorials may be made to Camp Caudle, 857 State Route 164 North, Hector, AR 72843.
