John Edward Carter, 70, of Western Grove, died Friday, Oct. 2 (2020). A graveside service will be held at Western Grove Cemetery, 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 9, in Western Grove with Pastor Heath Kirkpatrick officiating. Arrangements are by Coffman Funeral Home.

John was born in Galveston, Texas, Sept. 19, 1950. His parents are the late Arthur James Carter, Jr., and Edna Jane Starnes Carter. After nearly 45 years in finance and municipal management, he retired and moved to the family farm in Western Grove. He worked with the United States Census Bureau. He was a life-long member of the Episcopal Church and was a member of several vestries and an elected delegate to annual convocation conventions for Missouri and Nebraska. In 1978, he married Linda Forest, of Harrison.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Tyler Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; two sons, Justin Forest Carter, of Lake Forest, Illinois and Thatcher Collin Carter, of Western Grove; a brother, Jim; a sister, Jane; two grandchildren and other relatives.
