James Roy Bowen, 88, of Mt. Sherman, died at Washington Regional Hospice in Fayetteville on Sept. 25 (2019). Cremation was under the direction of Westfield Chapel of Springdale. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery.

He was born in Tregloan, Montana, the son of Lucius T. and Mae J. (Quigley) Bowen.

He was a member of the Jasper United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 93. He served in the Air Force from June 1949-December 1952. He was an engineer employed by Boeing Aircraft Co., Seattle, Washington; Martin-Marietta and International Laser Systems, Orlando, Florida. He worked on the design and construction of surgical laser systems for the military in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was also instrumental in the foundation of the Mt. Sherman Water Association.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of 59 years; a daughter, Linda Jett, of Harrison; four sons, Michael, of Alabaster, Alabama; James, Jr., of Cartersville, Georgia; Daniel, of Harrison and James V., of Raleigh, North Carolina; two sisters, Margaret Libby, of Livingston, Montana, Joyce Ludtke, of Helena, Montana; a brother, John, of Snohomish, Washington; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
