Chester Sams, 67, of Shiloh, died at his home, Saturday, April 4 (2020). A graveside service will be announced. Arrangements under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Jasper.

Chester was born Jan. 3, 1953, at his family home in Shiloh. His parents, Beecher and Nancy Sams, would eventually welcome several more children into their family, his brother, Vester Sams of Rogers and his sisters, Geneva Laughter of Hindsville, Dessie Taylor of Jasper, Orvis Laughter of Hindsville, Helen Kolander of Jasper, Patsy Holder of Springdale and Donna Nikkel of Jasper.

In 1978, Chester married the love of his life, Veronica White, also of Shiloh, Arkansas. They were married during Veronica’s senior year of high school and moved just up the hill from his birthplace, where he would live the remainder of his life. Although he and Veronica had no children of their own, their nieces and nephews would reap the benefit. They took all of them under their wings and treated them like their own. Chester was notorious for being the fun uncle. From showing up late at night to take them sledding off Walker Mountain, to running everyone out of the swimming hole by singing loud so they could have it to themselves. Chester taught them to hunt mushrooms and how to hide from their Granny. All his nieces and nephews would agree that he was the best uncle.

After the death of his wife, he visited her daily at the cemetery. He also took time to check on his nieces, nephews, and family making sure they were ok.
