The Mockingbird Hill Water Association is a public water system subject to regulation under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act. Those regulations require the notification of customers whenever a violation occurs, and is the basis for this notice.
The minimum number of 10 valid lead and copper tap samples was not received during the initial monitoring period of July through September 2020.
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets national drinking water standards and determined that the presence of lead and copper is a health concern above certain action levels.
Lead and copper can enter the water due to the corrosion of pipe and plumbing fixtures when corrosion control treatment is not optimized. The water system did not conduct the required monitoring for lead and copper during this time period and therefore cannot be sure of the quality of the drinking water at the time.
Failure to meet this requirement does not necessarily mean that the water is unsafe or that alternate sources of water should be used.
The water system has taken water samples from 20 different Mockingbird High Water System locations and sent them to the Arkansas Health Department for testing in Nov. 2020.
