Last week, I mentioned the sign at the Hilltop Bible Church looking so good. I always like to give credit where it is due. I have since learned that Steve Williams put in several hours getting the sign ready, painting, and helping do the lettering. It was a team effort on the part of both Steve and Sandy Williams. They did a great job, and the sign is beautiful.

The final proposal by the Arkansas State Broadband Office was released on Aug. 25, listing the selected awardees to receive grant funding to roll-out high-speed broadband internet to all locations throughout the state. Coordinated through the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program, the funding comes from the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Tuesday, August 26 was National Dog Day in the United States. Data from the American Veterinary Medical Association shows that 45.5% of American households have a dog. Recently some good news came in for man's best friend.

The quilt was hand-stitched by Betty Stivers and donated by Darlene Cullen. The drawing will be held in September at the Compton Community Day. Tickets are $5 each or 5/$20. On Wednesday, a grand reopening ceremony was held for Camp Jack. Located at 411 S. Pine St., Camp Jack is the better known name of the Jack Williams Veterans Resource Center. It was named in honor of Jack Williams. Williams was a Harrison native who fought in World War II. Services offered to veterans at Camp Jack include financial aid, medical and healthcare services, handicap and accessibility assistance, veterans benefits and claims assistance, as well as a food pantry.
