A man has been hiding out in Newton County with multiple warrants in other states.

Donald Cade Selvy, 69, of Mooresboro, N.C., was hiding out in southwest Newton County from a warrant and multiple cases out of North Carolina. Selvy had many cases filed in North Carolina ranging from theft to sexual assault dating back to the late 1970s.

According to Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler, there was no bond on the warrant and North Carolina officials would extradite nationwide.

Newton County officials started to investigate Selvy and his whereabouts. Once they had confirmed the criminal history, Sheriff Wheeler contacted the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. Together, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, and the 14th Judicial District Drug Task Force went to the residence where Selvy was staying.

The teams were able to take Selvy into custody without any incident.

Selvy was taken to the Newton County Jail to be held and a judge set his bond at $100,000.

Because of Selvy’s criminal history of being a sex offender, he added charges due to the fact he did not register with the state as a sex offender. This adds a class A felony of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender to the lengthy RAP sheet Selvy has already acquired. According to Sheriff Wheeler’s press release, Selvy could also see federal charges being added.

Sheriff Wheeler said, “When we learned that a man with a history and charges like his

was hiding in our county, we called in the best resources we could to get him in custody as soon

as possible. His criminal history was disturbing. It was great cooperation between my folks, the

Drug Task Force and the Marshal Service to take a potentially dangerous sexual predator out of

our community.”
