JASPER — Villines Electric Company recently hired Tristen Edgmon, a senior at Jasper High School, as its first youth apprentice through a newly established partnership with the Associated Builders and Contractors of Arkansas. Edgmon becomes just the fourth youth apprentice in Arkansas under this innovative new statewide program.
The youth apprenticeship program, recently launched in Arkansas, combines hands-on work experience with class instruction to prepare high school students for careers in the electrical trade. While working at Villines Electric Company, Edgmon will attend weekly classes focused on electrical code basics, creating a comprehensive learning experience that bridges classroom education with practical skills development. Upon his graduation, the plan is for Edgmon to transition to full-time employment with Villines Electric.
"We're proud to be among the first companies in Arkansas to participate in this innovative program," said Jackson Villines, owner of Villines Electric Company. "College isn't the right path for everyone. This program gives young adults the opportunity to get a head start on a high-skilled, well-paying career before graduating high school. I am a proud Jasper graduate and believe in supporting our local communities. Sometimes that means helping local kids find a career that suits them.”
